There comes a time in every woman’s life where the transition from reproductive age to menopause begins. For some women, the process may start early in their 40s while some women do not complete the process till mid 50s. Early in the process it is common to notice heavier and irregular menses followed by lighter and sparse menses. A woman reaches menopause once they go a full year without a period. In addition to irregular menses, some women will also notice hot flashes, night sweats, difficulty concentrating, changes in mood and decreased libido. Thankfully some women do not notice any of these other symptoms or may only have minimal symptoms.
Decreased sex drive
Managing menopause ideally involves a holistic approach. Often times, merely making a few changes in lifestyle and personal habits may be enough. For some women, hormonal treatment with estrogen and progesterone may be necessary. There are other medications that do not contain hormones that can be helpful. For women who do want to use medications, there are supplements, dietary modifications and natural products that can help. At En Santé Clinic we have options for treatment including bioidentical hormone replacement. For patients who desire hormone pellets, we use the BioTE bioidentical hormone replacement system.
