Dermal fillers

A Quick overview of dermal fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles, and enhance facial features. There are various types and brands of dermal fillers available on the market, each with its own characteristics and specific uses. Here are some commonly used types of dermal fillers and their purpose:

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers

These are the most popular type of fillers. They are made from a substance naturally found in the body called hyaluronic acid. HA fillers are used to treat wrinkles, fine lines, and add volume to areas like the cheeks, lips, and under the eyes. Brands include Juvederm, Restylane, Revance, Revanesse Versa, and Belotero

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Fillers

These fillers contain calcium-based microspheres suspended in a gel-like substance. They are used to fill deeper wrinkles and folds, stimulate collagen production, and add volume to the face. One popular calcium hydroxylapatite dermal filler is brand is Radiesse

Poly-L-lactic Acid (PLLA) Fillers

PLLA fillers are biodegradable synthetic substances that stimulate collagen production. They are used to treat deep wrinkles and facial folds over a series of treatments. Sculptra is a popular brand of PLLA filler.

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Fillers

PMMA fillers consist of tiny spheres suspended in a collagen-like substance. They provide a semi-permanent or permanent correction to deep wrinkles and volume loss. Bellafill is a well-known PMMA filler brand.

Autologous Fat Injections

This type of filler uses the patient’s own fat cells harvested through liposuction. The fat is processed and re-injected into areas requiring volume restoration. This technique can provide long-lasting results.

It’s important to note that different dermal fillers have specific indications and are administered by trained medical professionals. The choice of filler depends on individual needs, desired outcomes, and the expertise of the healthcare provider. Consulting with a qualified dermatologist or plastic surgeon is crucial to determine the most suitable filler for an individual’s specific concerns.
